Terms of Use

1. Purpose

Meduz is an interactive fiction and narrative role-playing application. It allows users to develop relationships with entirely AI-generated fictional characters. Stories and interactions evolve based on the player's choices.

The application is restricted to persons aged 18 and over due to the emotional and relational maturity of the themes addressed.

2. Access and registration

Access to Meduz requires creating an account via an email address, a Google account, or an Apple account. The user must:

• Be at least 18 years old at the time of registration
• Provide accurate information when creating their profile
• Maintain the confidentiality of their login credentials

SHADY SQUID INK reserves the right to verify the declared age and to suspend any account whose holder is a minor.

3. Creating a player character (persona)

During onboarding, the user creates a fictional character (“persona”) who will serve as their avatar in the Meduz universe. This character is entirely invented by the user and may not correspond to their real identity. The information provided includes:

• A fictional first name, gender, and age for the character
• An orientation and relationship preferences assigned to the persona
• Personality traits and interests to enrich the role-playing experience

This information is used exclusively to shape the narrative interactions between the user's persona and the AI characters in the Meduz universe. It is treated as game data linked to the user's account (see Privacy Policy).

The user may create multiple personas and delete them at any time from the application settings.

4. Nature of the characters

Meduz characters are entirely fictional and generated by artificial intelligence. They do not constitute in any way:

• Real relationships or real persons
• Services of any kind
• A substitute for real human relationships

Any resemblance to real persons, living or deceased, is purely coincidental.

5. Prohibited conduct

The following is strictly prohibited:

• Attempting to circumvent the age verification or to access the service as a minor
• Impersonating a real person
• Extracting, scraping, or reproducing the application's content without authorization
• Using the application for commercial purposes without prior written consent
• Attempting to solicit content involving minors or non-consensual violence
• Reverse-engineering, decompiling, or attempting to access the application's source code

6. AI-generated content

Meduz's artificial intelligence generates adaptive narratives based on the player's interactions. Some content may address romantic and intimate adult themes, in accordance with the preferences declared by the user.

Absolute limits apply: any content involving minors, non-consensual violence, or any other content that is illegal under French law is strictly prohibited and technically blocked.

The AI may make mistakes or produce imperfect responses. SHADY SQUID INK cannot be held liable for automatically generated content as long as legal limits are respected.

7. Intellectual property

SHADY SQUID INK owns all intellectual property rights relating to Meduz: characters, scenarios, graphical interface, brand, logo, and code.

The user retains ownership of their own messages. By submitting them, the user grants SHADY SQUID INK a non-exclusive license to use them to improve the service.

8. Suspension and termination

The user may delete their account at any time from the application settings. Deletion results in the erasure of their profile and conversational data.

SHADY SQUID INK may suspend or terminate an account without notice in the event of a violation of these Terms of Use, fraudulent activity, or non-payment.

9. Limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is”, without any guarantee of continuous availability or freedom from interruption.

SHADY SQUID INK shall not be held liable for the emotional or psychological impact of interactions with AI characters. The user acknowledges that the characters are fictional and that the application is not a substitute for professional support.

SHADY SQUID INK's liability is limited to the amounts actually paid by the user during the preceding 12 months.

10. Changes to the Terms of Use

SHADY SQUID INK reserves the right to modify these Terms of Use at any time. The user will be notified by in-app notification or by email. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

11. Applicable law and jurisdiction

These Terms of Use are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute not resolved amicably, the competent courts shall be those within the jurisdiction of SHADY SQUID INK's registered office (La Rochelle), subject to mandatory consumer protection provisions.
